Why join NAGS?

Just like the farming organisations we represent, probably the most important part of being a NAGS member is that by your membership you are contributing to the financial strength and lobbying power of the organisation. If NAGS didn’t have a membership take up of over 90% of eligible members we would not enjoy the influence we do, however, there are more benefits to NAGS membership including:

  • Legal Advice
  • Access to the discounted rates for NAGS Health Insurance scheme
  • Access to special rates for the NAGS Employment Service
  • Partnership Agreements
  • NAGS Welfare
  • Eligible to attend the NAGS annual conference

Membership descriptions and eligibility

Anyone under a contract of employment with one of the National Farmers‘ Unions and/or appointed agents on a commissioned basis with the NFU Mutual. Commissioned members are eligible to be elected to any office at Regional or National level.

Open to Senior Branch Managers and Branch Managers who are employed by the NFU Mutual and may or may not be under a Contract of Employment with one of the National Farmers’ Unions. Salaried members are not eligible to be elected to office at National level.

Open to those regarded by the Region concerned and National Council to be suitable for membership. Associate membership permits participation in educational and social matters and attendance at business meetings without the right to vote.

Members of NAGS who are retiring may be nominated by their region for retired membership on payment of the appropriate subscription (currently £50 for a five year period) and will be eligible to the benefits described in associate membership.

Commissioned and Salaried members may elect National Officeholders. Voting on other issues will be open only to those categories of members to whom the issue is pertinent to their membership status. Application for any grades of membership shall be addressed by his/her respective Region at the next Regional Meeting of the area in which the applicant holds his position immediately following his appointment or prior to his/her retirement. The Regional Secretary will advise the Administration Manager of any new members, resignations and retirements as soon as practicable following the Regional Meeting.
